Tools you need for measuring vertical blinds:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and writing your figures
  • A worksheet for recording the details
  • A ladder (if the windows are tall)

Tips for getting accurate measurements:

  • Always write height and width correctly, as mixing them up could lead to blinds that do not fit.
  • If you are fitting more than one blind, measure every window separately instead of assuming they are the same. Small differences can affect how well the blinds fit.

Outside Recess

Measure the full size of the space you want the blind to cover. To reduce light leakage, we recommend the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side. The bottom overlap is your choice, but remember to check for obstacles such as radiators. Always use a metal measuring tape because fabric tapes can stretch or bend and may give the wrong size.

Inside Recess

If you want the blind to fit within the window recess, measure the full width and height of the recess. We will make the necessary deductions for you to ensure the blind fits correctly. Take measurements at three points for both width and drop, then record the smallest figures. Do not make deductions yourself, as we will handle this for accuracy. Always use a steel measuring tape for reliable results.

Make sure you have the following items supplied with your vertical blind:

Additional tools and fittings you will need:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Extra screws
  • A drill with the correct bits
  • A cross-head screwdriver
  • A steel tape measure

Face Fix

Mark out where the headrail will go and position the brackets about 5cm from each end. If more than two brackets are included, space the others evenly along the length of the blind. Make sure the fixings are secure for the wall or surface being used. To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and secure it by tightening the front screw.

Top Fix

Mark out the section carefully, allowing for handles or other fittings inside the recess. Place the brackets around 10cm from the ends to make sure they clear the window handles. If extra brackets are provided, fix them at even distances along the headrail. Ensure all fixings are suitable for the surface. To install, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into place until it clicks. To release the headrail, push the bracket gently at the fixing point.
