Before you order, you will need to measure your window accurately. Having the right tools will make the job simple.

Tools you will need:

  • A steel tape measure
  • A pencil to write down measurements
  • A sheet to record your notes
  • A ladder for tall windows

Helpful measuring tips:

  • Take care not to confuse width and height when writing measurements, as mixing them up will mean your blind will not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each window separately because even small differences can affect how the blind fits.
  • Always use a metal tape measure because fabric ones can bend or stretch, giving you the wrong results.

Measuring Outside the Recess

If you want the blind to cover the wall area outside the recess, measure the exact size you want the blind to overlap. To reduce light coming through at the edges, it is best if the blind extends at least 70mm above the top of the recess and 50mm on each side.

The amount you allow at the bottom is up to you, but remember to check for obstructions such as radiators. Always use a steel tape measure to make sure your readings are accurate.

Measuring Inside the Recess

If you want the blind to sit within the recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. Record the smallest measurement if there are any slight differences between the top, middle, or bottom. Do not make any deductions yourself—we will do this for you so that the blind fits correctly.

Use a steel tape measure, not a fabric one, to avoid incorrect results.

When your blind arrives, it will include the main parts you need. However, you will also require some basic tools.

Included parts and extra equipment you will need:

  • Top fix brackets (x2)
  • Face fix brackets (x2)
  • Hangers (x1)
  • Allen key (x1)
  • Stabilising chain (x2)
  • Safety hook (x1)
  • Wood screws (x4)
  • Bottom weight (x1)
  • A pencil
  • Additional screws
  • Drill with correct bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

Mark where the headrail will sit and fit the brackets about 5cm in from each end. If your blind is wide and comes with more than two brackets, space the extras evenly along the headrail. Make sure the wall or surface you are attaching to is strong enough for the fixings.

To attach, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and secure it by tightening the screw at the front.

Top Fix

If you are fitting inside the recess, mark your measurements to allow for handles or any other obstructions. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail so that they clear window handles. If you have more than two brackets, fix the extras evenly across the length.

Make sure the surface is suitable for the fixings. Hook the headrail into the bracket and rotate it until it clicks into position. To release it, press the bracket catch to unhook.
