Tools you will need:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and writing sizes
  • A sheet of paper to record measurements
  • A ladder (if needed) for tall windows

Tips for accurate measuring:

  • Always keep height and width separate when noting down sizes, as mixing them up could result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, check each one individually. Even small differences between windows can affect how well the blind fits.
  • Always use a steel measuring tape because fabric tapes can bend or stretch and may cause errors.

Measuring Outside the Recess

Measure the total area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, it is best if the blind extends at least 70mm above the window opening and at least 50mm to each side.

The length at the bottom is up to you, but do consider obstacles such as radiators.

Measuring Inside the Recess

Take the full width and drop of the recess (the actual window space). We will then make small deductions ourselves to ensure a neat fit.

Always measure at three points across both the width and the drop, and note the smallest size for each.

Do not make your own adjustments; we will handle that.

Again, always use a steel tape measure for accuracy.

Make sure you have the following fittings supplied with your blind:

Items provided:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allan key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with correct drill bits
  • A cross-head screwdriver
  • A steel tape measure

Face Fixing

  • Position the brackets about 5cm from each end of the headrail. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the extras evenly across the rail.
  • Check that your fixings are right for the wall or surface.
  • To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate the headrail forward into place. Secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fixing

  • Measure and mark carefully to allow space for any window handles or other obstacles inside the recess.
  • Position the brackets around 10cm from each end of the headrail to make sure the rail clears the handle. If more than two brackets are supplied, spread the extra ones evenly.
  • Check your fixings are correct for the type of surface.
  • To fit, tilt the headrail into the bracket and rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove it, simply press the bracket release point.
