Tools you need:

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for notes and markings
  • Worksheet for recording measurements
  • Ladder (if windows are tall)

Helpful measuring tips:

  • Always write down width and height correctly, as mixing them up may result in blinds that do not fit.
  • Measure each window separately, even if they look the same. Small differences can affect the final fit.
  • Use a metal measuring tape, as fabric ones may stretch or bend and give inaccurate results.

Outside Recess

Measure the total size of the area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow at least 70mm overlap at the top and 50mm overlap on each side. The overlap at the bottom is up to you, but remember to check for obstructions such as radiators. Always use a metal tape for the most accurate result.

Inside Recess

For a blind that sits within the recess, measure the exact width and height of the opening. Take three measurements for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurement. Do not make any size reductions yourself – this will be done during production to ensure a perfect fit.

Check you have everything included:

  • 2 x top fix brackets
  • 2 x face fix brackets
  • 1 x set of hangers
  • 1 x Allen key
  • 2 x stabilising chains
  • 1 x safety hook
  • 4 x wood screws
  • 1 x weight
  • Screws
  • Pencil
  • Drill with suitable bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fixing

Place the brackets around 5cm from each end of the headrail position. If extra brackets are included, space them evenly across the length. Make sure your fixings are right for the type of wall or surface. To install, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and tighten the screw at the front to secure it.

Top Fixing

Measure and mark carefully, making allowances for any obstacles such as window handles. Position the brackets around 10cm from each end of the headrail so it clears the handle area. If you have more than two brackets, space them evenly. Make sure the fixings are suitable for the surface you are attaching to. Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket until it clicks. To release, press the bracket at the fixing point.
