Tools You Will Need:

  • A steel tape measure
  • A pencil to mark and note sizes
  • A worksheet for recording measurements
  • A ladder, if you are working with tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measuring:

  • Never mix up width and height. Writing them in the wrong order can result in blinds that do not fit.
  • Measure each window separately. Even if they look the same, slight variations can make a big difference in how the blinds sit.
  • Use a metal tape measure. Fabric or plastic ones can bend or stretch, giving incorrect results.

Outside Recess:

When measuring outside the recess, record the full size of the area you want the blind to cover. For less light leakage, allow the blind to extend at least 70mm above the recess and 50mm on each side. The bottom overlap depends on personal preference but consider obstacles such as radiators.

Inside Recess:

For fitting inside the recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. Measure in three places for both width and drop, then use the smallest measurement. Do not make any deductions yourself, as we will do that to ensure a correct fit. Always use a metal tape for the most accurate results.

When fitting, please check that your blind comes with:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Screws
  • A drill with the correct bits
  • A cross-head screwdriver
  • A pencil for marking
  • A steel tape measure

Face Fix:

Place the brackets about 5cm from each end where the headrail will be fitted. If more than two brackets are supplied, spread them evenly across the length of the blind. Always make sure the fixings are suitable for the type of wall or surface. Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and tighten the short screw at the front to secure it.

Top Fix:

Mark the distance needed to allow for window handles or any fittings that project into the recess. Position the brackets about 10cm from each end of where the headrail will sit, ensuring the handle has enough clearance. If more than two brackets are provided, place the extras evenly along the headrail. Check that your fixings are suitable for the surface. Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove it, push the bracket release point
