Tools you will need:

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for marking and noting sizes
  • Worksheet or notepad for records
  • Ladder if measuring tall windows

Tips for accurate measuring:

  • Always keep width and height separate when writing them down. Mixing them up will cause a poor fit.
  • If measuring more than one window, measure each one individually. Small differences between windows can affect how well blinds fit.
  • For the most accurate results, use a metal measuring tape. Cloth tapes can stretch or bend, which leads to errors.

Outside Recess

When fitting outside the recess, measure the exact space where you want the blind to cover. To reduce light entering around the edges, allow the blind to extend at least 70mm above the top of the window and 50mm on each side.

The length at the bottom is your choice, but remember to consider obstacles such as radiators or furniture. Always use a metal tape for this process.

Inside Recess

If you want the blind fitted inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. We will make the necessary adjustments so the blind fits neatly.

Measure in three places for both the width and the drop, and record the smallest measurements. Do not make any size reductions yourself—we will take care of that to ensure the blind fits properly.

Again, use a metal tape for precise results.

Before starting, make sure you have all the parts included with your vertical blind.

Extra tools and parts you will need:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 lengths of stabilising chain
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 bottom weight
  • Pencil
  • Additional screws
  • Drill with correct bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

Place the brackets around 5cm from each end where the headrail will be installed. If more than two brackets are included, space the extra ones evenly along the length. Ensure your fixings are appropriate for the wall or surface you are attaching to.

To install, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into position, and tighten the small screw at the front to lock it in place.

Top Fix

First, mark the distance needed to clear any obstructions such as window handles that project into the recess. Position the brackets about 10cm from each end of where the headrail will sit, making sure the handles can move freely. If more than two brackets are supplied, fix the extra ones evenly across the length. Again, check that the fixings are suitable for the mounting surface.

Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks securely. To release the headrail, press the bracket catch at the marked point.
