Tools you will need:

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for marking and writing sizes
  • Worksheet to note measurements
  • Ladder (if the windows are tall)

Tips for correct measuring:

  • Do not confuse height with width when writing your measurements, as this can cause blinds not to fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each one individually because even small differences can affect the fitting.

Measuring Outside the Recess

Measure the total area you would like the blind to cover. To reduce light coming through at the edges, allow the blind to overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.

At the bottom, the overlap depends on your preference, but remember to allow for items such as radiators. Always use a steel tape measure, as cloth ones can bend or stretch and may give incorrect sizes.

Measuring Inside the Recess

If you would like your blind to fit neatly inside the recess, measure the complete width and height of the opening. We will make the necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.

Take three measurements across the width and three for the drop, then use the smallest sizes. Do not make any changes yourself, as these will be handled during production. Again, use a steel tape measure for accuracy.

When fitting, please check that you have received all the parts supplied with your blinds.

Additional items you will need:

  • 2 top-fix brackets
  • 2 face-fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 lengths of stabilising chain
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with suitable bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • Steel tape measure

Face Fixing

Position the brackets about 5cm from each end of the headrail position. If you have been given more than two brackets, space the extra ones evenly along the length of the rail. Make sure the fittings are suitable for the type of wall or surface you are attaching them to.

To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate the headrail into place, then tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to secure it.

Top Fixing

Measure and mark carefully to allow for window handles or other obstacles inside the recess. Place the brackets roughly 10cm from each end of the headrail so they clear the handle area. If more than two brackets are provided, place the extra ones evenly across the length.

Again, check that the fixings are right for your wall or ceiling type. Hook the headrail into the bracket and rotate until it clicks securely. To remove it, push the release point on the bracket.
