Tools you will need to measure vertical blinds:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil to mark and note down measurements
  • A sheet to record your sizes
  • A ladder if the window is tall

Tips for accurate measurement:

  • Never confuse width with height when writing down numbers, as this can result in blinds that do not fit.
  • Always measure each window separately. Do not assume two windows are the same size, even if they look alike. Small differences can affect the way the blinds fit.

Measuring outside a recess:

  • Measure the full width and drop of the space you want the blind to cover.
  • To reduce light coming in around the edges, allow the blind to overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The overlap at the bottom is your choice, but remember to consider obstacles like radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, as fabric ones may stretch and give wrong sizes.

Measuring inside a recess:

  • Take the full width and drop of the recess (the inner opening of the window).
  • Measure in three places for both width and height, and record the smallest size.
  • Do not make any deductions yourself, as these will be done to make sure the blind fits neatly.
  • Use a steel tape measure for accuracy.

Please check you have the following parts supplied with your vertical blind:

  • Top fix brackets (x2)
  • Face fix brackets (x2)
  • Hangers (x1)
  • Allen key (x1)
  • Stabilising chain (x2)
  • Safety hook (x1)

  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct drill bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Method:

  • Place brackets about 5cm from each end of the headrail position. If more than two brackets are supplied, fix the rest evenly along the blind.
  • Make sure you use the right fixings for the type of wall or surface.
  • To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate into place. Tighten the front screw to secure it.

Top Fix Method:

  • First, measure carefully and mark the area, allowing space for any window handles that may stick out.
  • Position brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail so that they clear the handles. If more than two brackets are supplied, fit the rest evenly across the rail.
  • Ensure the fixings are correct for the surface.
  • To fit, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks into place.
  • To remove, press the release point on the bracket.
