Tools you will need:

  • Steel tape measure
  • Pencil for marking sizes
  • Worksheet to record figures
  • Ladder (if needed for tall windows)

Tips for accurate measuring:

  • Keep width and height measurements separate, as mixing them up can result in blinds that do not fit.
  • Measure each window individually, even if they look the same. Small differences can affect how blinds sit in place.
  • Always use a steel tape measure, as cloth ones can stretch or bend and give the wrong reading.

Outside Recess

If you would like the blind to cover the wall space around the window, measure the area you want it to overlap. For best results, we suggest at least 70mm above the recess and 50mm at each side. The overlap at the bottom is up to you, but consider things like radiators that may be in the way.

Inside Recess

To fit the blind inside the window frame, measure the full width and height of the recess. Take three measurements across both width and drop, then use the smallest numbers. Do not adjust the figures yourself, as we will make the correct allowances so the blind fits properly. Again, always use a steel tape measure for the most accurate results.

Before you start, make sure you have all the parts supplied with your blinds.

Face Fix

Mark the position for the brackets, placing them about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will go. If more than two brackets are provided, spread the extras evenly along the length. Make sure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface. Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it into place. Tighten the short screw at the front to secure it.

Top Fix

When fixing into the recess, measure and mark carefully to avoid handles or other obstacles. Position brackets around 10cm from each end of the headrail, leaving enough space for window handles. Spread extra brackets evenly across the length. Ensure the fixings match the surface type. Tilt the headrail into the bracket and rotate until it clicks into place. To remove, simply press the bracket release point.
