Tools you will need:

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil to mark and record measurements
  • Worksheet to note down your findings
  • Ladder, if measuring tall windows

Tips for accurate measurement:

  • Be careful not to mix up height and width, as swapping them may cause the blind not to fit.
  • Do not assume windows are the same size; measure each one individually. Even small differences can affect the fit.

Outside Recess

  • Measure the exact area where you want the blind to extend beyond the window. To reduce light gaps, it is recommended to let the blind overlap the top by at least 70mm and each side by 50mm.
  • The bottom overlap is optional but remember to consider obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure. Cloth tapes can stretch and give inaccurate results.

Inside Recess

  • Measure the full width and height of the window recess if you want the blind to fit inside it. The measurements are taken from the full opening, and the supplier will make the necessary deductions for a perfect fit.
  • Measure in three places for both width and height and use the smallest measurements.
  • Do not make any deductions yourself; the blind will be made to fit perfectly.
  • Use a metal tape measure as cloth ones may stretch and give incorrect measurements.

Face Fix

  • Position the brackets roughly 5cm from each end of the headrail. If extra brackets are included, space them evenly along the length of the blind. Make sure the fixings suit your wall or mounting surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into position, and secure by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

  • Measure and mark areas to avoid obstacles like window handles. Position the brackets about 10cm from the ends to clear handles. Space any additional brackets evenly. Ensure fixings suit the wall or surface.
  • Tilt the headrail and hook it into the bracket, rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove it, press the bracket at the point.
