Tools Needed to Measure Your Blinds

  • A steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for marking and recording measurements
  • Worksheet or notebook to write down measurements
  • Ladder if your windows are tall

Tips for Accurate Measuring:

  • Keep height and width measurements separate. Mixing them up can result in a blind that does not fit.
  • If measuring multiple windows, measure each one individually. Slight differences between windows can significantly affect the fit.

Outside Recess Measurement

  • Measure the exact area where you want the blind to extend. To reduce light gaps, the blind should overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The bottom overlap is optional, but consider obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure. Cloth tapes may stretch or bend, causing inaccurate measurements.

Inside Recess Measurement

  • Measure the full width and height of the window recess if you want the blind to fit inside the frame. The manufacturer will make the necessary deductions to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Measure in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurements.
  • Do not make any deductions yourself; the manufacturer will do this to ensure the blind fits correctly.
  • Use a metal tape measure to avoid stretching errors from cloth tapes.

Ensure you have all the parts that come with your blind before starting.

Additional Equipment You Will Need:

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chains x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Blind weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with suitable bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

  • Place the brackets approximately 5cm from each end of the headrail. If additional brackets are supplied, space them evenly along the length of the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into place. Secure the headrail by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix Installation

  • Measure and mark where the brackets will go, allowing for any obstacles like window handles. Position the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail to avoid handles. Additional brackets should be spaced evenly. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or ceiling.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the designated point.
