Tools You Will Need to Measure Your Blinds

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for marking and recording measurements
  • Worksheet or notebook to record your findings
  • Ladder for tall windows, if required

Tips for Accurate Measuring:

  • Keep height and width measurements separate. Mixing them up may result in a blind that does not fit.
  • If measuring more than one window, measure each individually. Small differences between windows can affect the fit.

Outside Recess Measurement

  • Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to extend at least 70mm above the window recess and 50mm on each side.
  • The bottom overlap is optional, but consider obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure. Fabric tapes can stretch or bend, giving inaccurate measurements.

Inside Recess Measurement

  • Measure the full width and height of the window recess if you want the blind to fit inside. The manufacturer will make the necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Take measurements in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurement.
  • Do not make any deductions yourself; the manufacturer will do this to guarantee the blind fits correctly.
  • Use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes may stretch and give incorrect readings.

Before starting, make sure you have all the parts that come with your blind.

Extra Equipment You Will Need:

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chains x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Blind weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with suitable bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

  • Position the brackets about 5cm from each end of the headrail. If extra brackets are provided, space them evenly along the blind. Make sure the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and secure it by tightening the short screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix Installation

  • Measure and mark where the brackets will go, taking care to avoid obstacles such as window handles. Place the brackets approximately 10cm from each end of the headrail to clear handles. Additional brackets should be evenly spaced along the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or ceiling.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it until it clicks. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the designated point.
