Tools You Will Need to Measure Roman Blinds:

  • Metal measuring tape
  • Pencil to mark and note your measurements
  • Worksheet to record results
  • Ladder for high windows, if required

Tips for Accurate Measurement:

  • Keep height and width measurements separate, as mixing them up can result in a blind that does not fit.
  • If measuring several windows, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each one individually, as small differences can significantly affect the fit.

Outside Recess Measurement:

  • Measure the exact area where you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The bottom overlap is optional, but remember to consider obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes may stretch or bend, leading to inaccurate results.

Inside Recess Measurement:

  • This measurement is needed if you want the blind to fit inside the window recess. Measure the full width and height of the recess, and deductions will be made to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Measure in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurement.
  • Do not make any deductions yourself; the blind will be adjusted to fit precisely.
  • Use a metal tape for accuracy, as cloth tapes can give incorrect measurements.

Face Fix Installation:

  • Position the brackets about 5cm from each end where the headrail will sit. If extra brackets are included, space them evenly along the length of the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the brackets, rotate it into position, and secure it by tightening the short screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix Installation:

  • Measure and mark positions to allow for obstacles such as window handles. Place the brackets roughly 10cm from each end to clear handles. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the additional ones evenly along the blind. Make sure the fixings suit your wall or surface.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the brackets, rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the designated point.
