Measure the exact area that you want the blind to cover. To reduce the amount of light coming through, it is recommended that the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
The lower overlap depends on your preference, but do consider obstacles such as radiators. Always use a metal tape measure, as fabric ones may stretch or bend and cause inaccurate measurements.
This is the size you will need if you want your blind to fit inside the window recess. Measure the full width and height of the recess (essentially the opening), and the adjustments will be made for you so the blind fits neatly.
Take measurements in three places for both the width and the drop, then use the smallest figure in each case. Do not make any deductions yourself; this will be done to achieve the right fit. Again, always use a metal tape measure, as cloth ones may give incorrect results.
Ensure the following parts are included with your vertical blind:
Extra tools and equipment required for fitting:
Position the brackets about 5cm from each end of the headrail location. If more than two brackets are provided, space the rest evenly across the length of the blind. Always make sure that the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface where the brackets will be attached.
Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and tighten the short screw at the front of the bracket to secure it.
Mark the fixing points carefully, allowing room for any handles or fittings that may project into the recess. Place the brackets around 10cm from each end of where the headrail will sit, as this clears most window handles. If extra brackets are provided, fix them evenly across the blind. Always check that the fittings are right for the wall or surface.
Tilt the headrail into the bracket and rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove, press the release point on the bracket.
