Tools required for measuring vertical blinds:

• A steel tape measure
• A pencil for marking and writing down measurements
• A worksheet for recording sizes
• A step ladder (for tall windows, if needed)

Important measuring tips:

• Never confuse height with width when writing down figures, as swapping them will cause your blind not to fit.
• When measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same size. Take individual measurements for each one, as even small differences can affect the fit.

Measuring Outside the Recess

Measure the total size of the area that you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side. The overlap at the bottom is up to you, but remember to take into account obstructions such as radiators. Always use a metal tape measure because cloth ones can stretch and bend, leading to inaccurate readings.

Measuring Inside the Recess

If you want the blind to sit within the window recess, measure the complete width and height of the opening. We will make the correct deductions so that the blind fits properly. For accuracy, measure in three places across both the width and the drop, then use the smallest figure for each. Do not make deductions yourself, as we handle that to ensure the correct fit. A steel tape measure is essential, as fabric ones may stretch and give incorrect measurements.

Please ensure you have all the fittings that are supplied with your vertical blind:

• Two top fix brackets
• Two face fix brackets
• One set of hangers
• One Allen key
• Two stabilising chains
• One safety hook
• Four wood screws
• One bottom weight
• A pencil
• Screws
• A drill with the right drill bits
• A crosshead screwdriver
• A steel tape measure

Face Fix Method

Position the brackets about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will be fitted. If more than two brackets are included, place the extras at equal distances along the blind. Always check that the fixings you use are suitable for the wall or surface. To attach, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and then tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to secure it.

Top Fix Method

First, check and mark the area, leaving space for any obstacles such as window handles. Fit the brackets roughly 10cm from each end of the headrail position, which gives enough clearance for handles. If additional brackets are provided, fit them evenly across the length of the blind. Ensure your fixings are correct for the surface. To attach, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket and rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove it, press the release point on the bracket.
