Tools You Will Need:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and noting sizes
  • A worksheet to record all your measurements
  • A ladder, if you are measuring tall windows

Important Measuring Tips:

  • Always write down height and width correctly. Mixing them up may cause the blind not to fit.
  • Do not assume multiple windows are the same size. Measure each one individually, as even small differences can affect the fit.

Measuring for Outside Recess

Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, it is recommended that the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm at each side.

The overlap at the bottom is your choice, but you should take into account items such as radiators or window sills.

Always use a metal tape measure, as fabric tape measures can bend or stretch, leading to incorrect results.

Measuring for Inside Recess

If you want the blind to sit neatly inside the recess, measure the full width and height of the recess itself. Adjustments will then be made to make sure the blind fits correctly.

Take three measurements each for the width and the drop, then record the smallest results.

Do not make any deductions yourself. These will be done for you to ensure the blind is cut to the right size. Always use a metal tape measure to avoid errors.

Your blind should come with the following items:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight

You will also need:

  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with the correct drill bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

Fit the brackets about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are included, fix the extra brackets evenly across the blind. Always check that your wall fixings are appropriate for the surface you are working with.

To attach, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix Installation

Mark the area carefully to allow for any handles or parts that extend into the recess. Fit the brackets about 10cm from the ends of the headrail to ensure clearance of the window handle. If more than two brackets are supplied, place the additional ones at even intervals across the headrail. Ensure that your fixings are suitable for the ceiling or surface being used.

To install, tilt the headrail into the bracket and rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the release point on the bracket and lift it free.
