Tools You Will Need to Measure Roman Blinds

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for marking measurements
  • Worksheet or paper to write them down
  • Ladder if the window is tall

Tips for Accurate Measurements

  • Write down height and width correctly, as mixing them up will result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same. Measure each window separately and record the results. Even small differences can affect the fit of your blinds.

Outside Recess

  • Measure the full area you want the blind to cover. To help block light, the blind should overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The overlap at the bottom depends on your preference, but keep in mind any obstacles such as radiators.
  • Use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes can bend or stretch, which may lead to incorrect measurements.

Inside Recess

  • Measure this if you want your blind to fit neatly inside the recess. Take the full width and height of the recess (the inside opening), and we will make the required deductions for the best fit.
  • Measure in three different places for both width and drop, and always use the smallest measurement.
  • Do not make deductions yourself, as we will handle this to ensure accuracy.
  • Always use a metal tape measure to avoid mistakes caused by stretching or bending.

Before fitting, check that you have the following items included with your vertical blind:

Additional tools and items you may need during fitting:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 hanger
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with the right drill bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

Place the brackets about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will go. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the extra ones evenly across the full length of the blind. Always make sure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface you are attaching them to.

To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it until it locks into place. Tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to secure the headrail.

Top Fix

Measure and mark the position carefully, making sure to allow for handles or anything else that might project into the recess. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail so that the handles are cleared. If more than two brackets are provided, spread the extras evenly along the full length. Use fixings that are right for the surface you are attaching them to.

To install, tilt the headrail, hook it into the bracket, and rotate until it clicks. To remove it, press the release point on the bracket.
