Tools You Will Need

  • A steel tape measure
  • A pencil for marking and noting sizes
  • A worksheet to record each measurement
  • A ladder, if windows are tall

Tips for Accurate Measuring

  • Never mix up the width and height when writing measurements, as this can result in a blind that does not fit.
  • When measuring more than one window, check each individually. Do not assume they are the same size, as even small differences can affect the fit.

Outside Recess

Measure the exact size of the space you want the blind to cover. To help reduce light leakage, allow the blind to overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.

The bottom overlap is up to you, but always consider obstacles such as radiators.

Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth ones can stretch or bend, leading to incorrect results.

Inside Recess

For blinds fitting inside the recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. We will then make the necessary adjustments to achieve a precise fit.

Measure in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest result.

Do not make your own deductions, as we will do this for you to ensure accuracy.

A metal tape measure is essential, since cloth types can give inaccurate readings.

Before starting, check that the following parts and tools are included with your blind:

Items you will need:

  • 2 x top fix brackets
  • 2 x face fix brackets
  • 1 x set of hangers
  • 1 x allen key
  • 2 x stabilising chains
  • 1 x safety hook
  • 4 x wood screws
  • 1 x weight
  • Screws
  • A pencil
  • A drill with the correct bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fix

Place the brackets around 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If you have more than two brackets, space the extras evenly across the width of the blind. Always check that the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.

To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into place. Secure it by tightening the small screw at the front.

Top Fix

Mark and measure carefully, allowing space for any handles or fittings that may project into the recess. Position the brackets about 10cm from each end of where the headrail will be fixed. If more than two brackets are included, space the extras evenly. Always make sure your fixings are suitable for the surface.

Tilt the headrail and hook it into the bracket until it clicks. To release the headrail, press the bracket at the release point.
