Tools You Will Need to Measure Vertical Blinds:

  • A strong steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking measurements
  • A worksheet or paper to record sizes
  • A ladder if working with tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measuring:

  • Always write height and width separately. Mixing them up can lead to blinds that do not fit.
  • Do not assume different windows are the same size. Measure each one carefully as even small differences can affect how well the blind fits.

Measuring Outside the Recess

Measure the area where you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, it is advised that the blind extends at least 70mm above the recess and 50mm at each side.

The lower overlap depends on your choice, but you should consider any obstacles such as radiators. Always use a steel tape measure rather than a cloth one, as fabric tapes can bend or stretch and cause incorrect results.

Measuring Inside the Recess

If you want the blind to fit inside the recess, measure the full width and drop of the space. The necessary deductions will be made to ensure a neat fit.

Measure in three places for both the width and the drop, and record the smallest sizes. Do not make deductions yourself as these are applied during production to give the best fit. Use a steel tape measure as cloth tapes may give false readings.

Make sure you have the following items included with your vertical blind:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 hanger
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Additional screws if needed
  • A drill with correct drill bits
  • A cross-head screwdriver
  • A steel tape measure

Face Fix Fitting

Position the brackets around 5cm from each end of where the headrail will be fitted. If more than two brackets are supplied, place the extras evenly along the headrail. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.

To attach, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into position, and tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to hold it securely.

Top Fix Fitting

Mark the positions carefully, leaving enough clearance for any handles that project into the recess. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail position, as this ensures the blind clears window handles. If you have more than two brackets, fit them evenly across the rail. Always check the fixings are right for the surface.

Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks firmly into place. To release the headrail, press the release point on the bracket.
