Tools You Will Need to Measure Vertical Blinds:

  • A steel tape measure
  • A pencil for marking and writing measurements
  • A worksheet to note down results
  • A ladder, if windows are high up

Tips for Accurate Measurements:

  • Do not confuse width and height when writing them down, as this could result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If measuring more than one window, treat each one separately. Never assume they are the same size, as even small differences can affect the fit.
  • For outside recess fitting, measure the full area you want the blind to cover. To prevent light from seeping in, it is best for the blind to extend at least 70mm above the recess and 50mm on each side. At the bottom, the overlap depends on your preference, but remember to consider any obstacles like radiators.
  • Always use a steel tape measure, as fabric ones may stretch or bend and give incorrect measurements.

Inside Recess:

  • This measurement applies if you want the blind to sit neatly inside the window recess. Measure the total width and height of the recess (essentially the size of the opening). We will then adjust the size to ensure a proper fit.
  • Take three measurements each for the width and the drop, and use the smallest figure for accuracy.
  • Do not make any adjustments yourself. Leave that to us, so the blind fits exactly.
  • Again, always rely on a steel tape measure for precision.

Before fitting, please make sure you have all the items included with your vertical blind.

Extra Equipment You Will Need:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with the correct drill bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A steel tape measure

Face Fix:

  • Place the brackets about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If you have more than two brackets, fix the rest evenly along the length of the blind. Always make sure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.
  • To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate the headrail into place, and tighten the small screw on the front of the bracket to secure it.

Top Fix:

  • Measure and mark the correct position, keeping in mind any obstructions like window handles that stick into the recess. Place the brackets around 10cm from the ends of the headrail position to avoid these barriers. If you have more than two brackets, space the others evenly across the blind’s length. Again, check that fixings are suitable for the surface.
  • To fit, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket. Rotate it until you hear it click into place. To release the headrail, press the bracket where indicated.
