Tools you will need for measuring your blinds:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil to mark and note your sizes
  • A sheet of paper or worksheet for recording your results
  • A ladder, if your windows are tall

Tips for accurate measuring:

  • Always keep width and height separate. Mixing them up can result in blinds that do not fit.
  • When measuring more than one window, take each measurement separately. Even small differences can affect the fit.
  • If measuring for an outside recess, measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to extend at least 70mm above and 50mm on each side of the window. At the bottom, choose the length that works best but remember to allow space for features like radiators. Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth ones can bend or stretch and give false sizes.
  • If measuring for an inside recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. Take three measurements across the width and height, and use the smallest figures. Do not make your own deductions, as these will be made for you to ensure a precise fit. Again, use a metal tape measure for accuracy.

When fitting your vertical blind, ensure you have the following items included in the pack:

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chain x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct drill bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Steel tape measure

Face Fix

Place the brackets roughly 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are included, fit the extras evenly along the blind’s length. Always check the wall or surface is strong enough for the fixings. To attach, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and then secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

Measure and mark where the brackets should go, leaving space for any obstructions such as window handles. Fix the brackets around 10cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If extra brackets are supplied, spread them evenly. Again, ensure the fixings are suitable for the surface. Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket until it clicks into place. To remove it, simply press the bracket to release the rail.
