Tools You Will Need for Measuring Vertical Blinds:

  • A steel tape measure
  • A pencil for writing and marking sizes
  • A worksheet to note down all measurements
  • A ladder for tall or high windows

Helpful Tips for Accurate Measurements:

  • Do not confuse height and width when writing your sizes, as switching them may lead to blinds that do not fit.
  • If you are measuring several windows, take each measurement separately. Never assume they are all the same, as even small differences can affect the fitting.
  • For an outside recess fitting, measure the area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light leakage, it is advised that the blind overlaps the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The overlap at the bottom is your choice, but always remember to allow for items like radiators.
  • Always use a steel tape measure, as fabric ones may bend or stretch and give you incorrect figures.

Inside Recess:

  • Take this measurement if you want the blind to sit inside the window recess. Measure the total width and height of the recess (the full opening). We will then make the necessary adjustments so the blind fits properly.
  • Take measurements in three different spots for both the width and the drop, then use the smallest figure for accuracy.
  • Do not make deductions yourself, as we will do this to make sure the blind is the right size.
  • As with other steps, always use a steel tape measure for the most precise results.

Before you begin, make sure you have everything included with your vertical blind.

Extra Equipment You Will Need:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with suitable drill bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A steel tape measure

Face Fix:

  • Place the brackets about 5cm in from each end of the headrail position. If you have more than two brackets, fix the extra ones evenly across the full length of the blind. Always check that your fixings are suitable for the wall or surface being used.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into position, and then tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to hold it securely in place.

Top Fix:

  • Measure and mark carefully, making sure to allow room for obstructions such as window handles that stick into the recess. Position the brackets about 10cm in from each end of the headrail to ensure clearance from handles. If you have extra brackets, place them evenly across the blind’s length. Again, always make sure your fixings are suitable for the surface.
  • Tilt the headrail and hook it into the bracket. Rotate it until you hear it click into place. To release the headrail, press the bracket where shown.
