Tools Needed for Measuring Vertical Blinds

  • Steel tape measure
  • Pencil for marking and writing measurements
  • Worksheet to record your sizes
  • Ladder (if needed) for high windows

Tips for Accurate Measurements

  • Always check that you do not confuse the width and height measurements, as swapping them can result in a blind that does not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each window individually because small differences can affect how well the blinds fit.

Measuring for Outside Recess

  • Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover.
  • To reduce light gaps, we recommend the blind overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The bottom overlap is up to you, but be mindful of obstacles like radiators.
  • Use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes can bend or stretch and give inaccurate results.

Measuring for Inside Recess

  • If you want your blind to sit inside the recess, measure the full width and height of the recess space.
  • Take measurements in three places across both the width and the height, and use the smallest numbers.
  • Do not make any deductions; these will be made during production to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Always use a metal tape measure for accuracy.

Before starting, make sure you have all the parts supplied with your vertical blind.

Extra Equipment Needed

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chain x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with appropriate bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

  • Position the brackets around 5cm from each end where the headrail will be fitted. If more than two brackets are provided, space the additional ones evenly along the blind.
  • Ensure that the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface you are attaching them to.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into position. Secure the headrail by tightening the short screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

  • Mark the bracket positions, leaving space for obstacles like window handles.
  • Place the brackets around 10cm from the ends of the headrail to clear window handles. If there are more than two brackets, fit the extra ones evenly across the length.
  • Make sure the wall or surface can hold the fixings securely.
  • Hook the headrail into the bracket and rotate it until it clicks. To remove it, press the bracket release point.
