Tools Needed for Measuring Vertical Blinds

  • A steel tape measure
  • A pencil to write down measurements
  • A worksheet to record sizes
  • A ladder for tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measuring

  • Always write height and width separately. Mixing them up may result in a blind that does not fit.
  • Measure each window individually. Even windows that look the same can have small differences, which affect how the blinds fit.

Outside Recess

Measure the area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.

The bottom overlap is up to you, but remember obstacles like radiators.

Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes can stretch or bend and give inaccurate results.

Inside Recess

If you want the blind to fit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. We will make the necessary deductions to ensure a perfect fit.

Take three measurements for both width and drop, and use the smallest number.

Do not make any deductions yourself. We will adjust them to guarantee the blind fits perfectly.

Always use a metal tape measure for accurate results.

Before starting, make sure you have all the items that come with your blind.

Extra Equipment You May Need:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

Place the brackets about 5cm from each end of the headrail. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the others evenly along the blind. Make sure the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it into position. Secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

Mark where the brackets will go, leaving space for handles or other obstacles in the recess. Position the brackets around 10cm from each end of the headrail to clear window handles. If extra brackets are included, space them evenly along the rail. Ensure the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.

Tilt the headrail into the bracket, rotate it until it clicks into place, and to remove the headrail, push the bracket at the marked point.
