Tools Needed for Measuring Vertical Blinds:

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for marking and noting measurements
  • Worksheet to record your findings
  • Ladder if your windows are tall

Tips for Accurate Measurement

  • Always ensure height and width measurements are recorded correctly. Swapping them can result in a blind that does not fit.
  • Do not assume windows are the same size. Measure each window individually, as small differences can affect the fit.

Measuring for Outside Recess

Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, it is recommended that the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.

The bottom overlap is optional, but remember to allow space for obstacles like radiators. Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth ones can stretch and give inaccurate results.

Measuring for Inside Recess

If you want the blind to sit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the recess. The manufacturer will make the necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.

Measure in three places for both the width and the drop, and use the smallest measurement. Do not make your own deductions. A metal tape measure should always be used for accuracy.

Before starting, make sure you have all the parts included with your vertical blind.

Extra Equipment Needed:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allan key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Pencil
  • Extra screws
  • Drill with correct bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

Position the brackets about 5cm from the ends where the headrail will sit. If there are more than two brackets, space the remaining ones evenly along the length of the blind. Make sure the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into position, and secure it by tightening the short screw at the front.

Top Fix Installation

Mark the measurements carefully, allowing space for obstacles like window handles. Position the brackets around 10cm from the ends to ensure clearance. If there are more than two brackets, space the others evenly along the blind. Make sure fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.

Tilt the headrail and hook it into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the release point.
