Tools You Will Need for Vertical Blinds

  • Steel tape measure
  • Pencil for marking and noting measurements
  • Worksheet to record sizes
  • Ladder (if needed) for taller windows

Tips for Accurate Measurement

  • Keep width and height measurements clearly separate, as switching them can result in a blind that does not fit.
  • For multiple windows, do not assume they are all the same size. Measure each individually because small differences can make a noticeable impact on the fit.

Measuring for Outside Recess

  • Measure the exact space where you want the blind to extend.
  • To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The bottom overlap is optional, but remember to consider obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure; cloth tapes can stretch or bend, which may give incorrect results.

Measuring for Inside Recess

  • Measure the full width and height of the recess if you want the blind to fit inside it.
  • Take measurements in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest number.
  • Do not make any deductions; the correct adjustments will be applied to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Use a metal tape measure for accuracy.

Check that all the components supplied with your vertical blind are available before starting.

Extra Equipment Needed

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chain x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with appropriate bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

  • Place the brackets about 5cm from the ends where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are included, space the extra brackets evenly along the length.
  • Ensure that the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface being used.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into place. Secure it by tightening the short screw on the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

  • Measure and mark positions to avoid obstructions like window handles.
  • Position the brackets approximately 10cm from the ends of the headrail to ensure clearance for handles. If more than two brackets are supplied, fit additional brackets evenly along the length.
  • Make sure the fixings are appropriate for the wall or surface.
  • Hook the headrail into the bracket, rotate it until it clicks into place. To release, press the bracket at the release point.
