Tools You Will Need to Measure Vertical Blinds

  • A sturdy steel measuring tape
  • A pencil to mark and write down your measurements
  • A worksheet to record your results
  • A ladder for tall windows if required

Tips for Accurate Measurements

Do not confuse height and width when recording your measurements, as switching them could result in a blind that does not fit. When measuring multiple windows, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each one individually, as even small differences can affect the fit.

Measuring for Outside Recess

Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light leakage, allow the blind to extend at least 70mm above the window recess and 50mm on each side. The bottom overlap is optional, but consider obstacles like radiators. Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes can stretch and give inaccurate readings.

Measuring for Inside Recess

If the blind is to fit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. We will make the necessary deductions to guarantee a perfect fit.

Measure in three places for both the width and the drop, using the smallest measurement. Do not make any deductions yourself, as these will be applied to ensure the blind fits correctly. Use a metal tape measure to avoid inaccuracies caused by stretching.

Before installation, make sure you have all the items that come with your vertical blind:

Additional Equipment Required

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with suitable bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fix

For face fixing, place the brackets about 5cm from each end where the headrail will sit. If extra brackets are supplied, space them evenly along the length of the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into position. Secure the headrail by tightening the short screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

For top fixing, measure and mark the position carefully, leaving room for window handles or other obstacles that may protrude into the recess. Place the brackets approximately 10cm from each end to avoid interference with handles. Space any additional brackets evenly along the length. Make sure the fixings are appropriate for the wall or surface.

Tilt the headrail into the bracket and rotate until it clicks into place. To release the headrail, press the release point on the bracket.
