Tools required for measuring vertical blinds:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil to mark and note your measurements
  • A worksheet to record your results
  • A ladder for taller windows

Tips for accurate measurements:

  • Be careful not to confuse the height and width, as mixing them may result in a blind that does not fit properly.
  • If measuring more than one window, do not assume they are identical. Measure each window individually and record each measurement. Small differences can have a significant effect on the fit.

Outside Recess

Measure the exact area where you want the blind to overlap. To reduce light gaps, it is recommended that the blind extends at least 70mm beyond the top of the window recess and 50mm on each side.

The bottom overlap is optional but take into account obstacles such as radiators. Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes can stretch or bend and give inaccurate measurements.

Inside Recess

If the blind is to fit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. We will make the necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.

Take measurements in three places for both the width and the drop and use the smallest values. Do not make any deductions yourself; we will adjust them for you. Always use a metal tape measure to guarantee accuracy.

Before starting, make sure you have all the items supplied with your vertical blind:

Additional equipment required:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with suitable bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fix

Position the brackets approximately 5cm from each end of the headrail. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the extra brackets evenly along the blind. Make sure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface where you are installing them.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into place. Secure it by tightening the short screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

Measure and mark the positions carefully to allow for obstacles such as window handles that may stick out into the recess. Place the brackets around 10cm from each end of the headrail to avoid handles. If additional brackets are supplied, space them evenly along the blind’s length. Ensure the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.

To fit, tilt the headrail and hook it into the bracket. Rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the release point.
