Tools You Will Need for Measuring Vertical Blinds

  • A strong steel tape measure
  • A pencil to mark and note down your sizes
  • A sheet or notepad to keep your measurements
  • A step ladder if windows are high

Tips for Accurate Measuring

  • Always keep height and width separate when writing your measurements, as mixing them up could result in blinds that do not fit properly.
  • Do not assume that all windows are the same size. Check each one individually and write down every measurement, since even small differences can affect how well the blinds fit.

Outside Recess

  • Measure the full area where you want the blind to cover. To reduce light coming through, it is recommended that the blind extends at least 70mm above the window recess and 50mm on both sides.
  • The overlap at the bottom depends on your preference, but remember to allow for obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, as fabric or plastic ones can bend or stretch, giving you incorrect results.

Inside Recess

  • This method is used when the blind is to sit within the window recess. Measure the full width and height of the recess. Adjustments will be made during production to ensure the blind fits neatly.
  • Take measurements in three places for both the width and the drop, and use the smallest measurement.
  • Do not make your own deductions, as these will be made for you.
  • Use a steel tape measure for accuracy, as cloth types may give misleading readings.

Items Included with Your Vertical Blind

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Screws
  • A pencil
  • Drill with suitable bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

  • Position the brackets around 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, place the extra brackets evenly along the headrail.
  • Check that the fixings you use are suitable for the wall or surface where you are fitting the brackets.
  • To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and then secure it by tightening the short screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

  • Measure and mark carefully, allowing for handles or any other obstacles that may project into the recess.
  • Place the brackets around 10cm from each end of the headrail so they clear the window handle. If extra brackets are included, fix them evenly along the length of the blind.
  • Make sure your fixings are suitable for the surface you are attaching them to.
  • Hook the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place until it clicks, and to remove it, press the bracket release point.
