Tools you will need:

  • Steel tape measure
  • Pencil to mark measurements
  • Worksheet to record your results
  • Ladder for tall windows if required

Tips for accurate measurement:

  • Do not confuse width and height when writing measurements. Mistakes may result in a blind that does not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, do not assume they are all the same size. Measure each one individually, as small differences can affect the fit.

Inside Recess Measurement

If you want the blind to fit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the recess from wall to wall. Take three measurements across the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the window. Measure the height in three places – left, right, and centre. Use a steel tape measure for accuracy, down to the nearest millimetre.

Always use the smallest measurement when ordering. The factory will make any necessary deductions for recess-specified blinds to ensure a perfect fit. Be careful when measuring, avoiding obstructions such as tiles, handles, or rails, so the position is accurate.

Outside Recess Measurement

If you want the blind to sit outside the recess, the blind will be made to your exact measurements without deductions. Measure the area you want the blind to cover. To reduce sunlight coming through, we recommend an overlap of 6 cm on each side and 7 cm at the top. Overlap at the bottom is optional. Use a metal tape measure for accuracy, and take care around obstacles like tiles or rails to ensure correct placement.

You will need to choose the mounting style:

Top mount – brackets are mounted to the top surface, such as the top of the window recess or ceiling.

Face mount – brackets are fixed to the face of the window frame.

Position the brackets so the blind can operate freely without touching handles or window frames. Place both brackets loosely on the blind and hold it in the window to check positioning. This helps you centre the blind accurately.

Place the control side bracket on the same side as the chain mechanism. Mark the first bracket carefully, ensuring it is level and not twisted. Drill holes and fix the bracket securely, using raw plugs if attaching to a wall.

Insert one end of the blind into the mounted bracket. Then place the other bracket on the opposite end, mark its position, check it is level with the first, and secure it in place with screws or raw plugs.

Mounting the Blind

Insert the pin side of the blind into the pin side bracket. The pin end has a spring mechanism to make mounting and removal easier. Insert the control mechanism into the control side bracket. The central lug on the control side should point down and slot into the bracket cross-section.

Operating the Blind

Once installed, use the chain on the side to raise and lower the blind.

P-Clip

The P-clip should be installed as far as possible from the control mechanism to keep the chain tight and prevent slack. Ensure the control chain passes inside the P-clip, with the clip at the bottom of the loop. The chain should move smoothly and remain taut. Fix the tensioning device to the wall along the length of the blind to maintain constant tension.
