When measuring for slats only, the measurement will show the length of the vertical blind fabric laid flat. The slat width is usually 89mm, which is the most common size and the one used for most fabrics available.

When placing an order, always confirm that the fabric chosen matches the correct width. (Measure to the nearest centimetre for both height and width. Do not make any deductions yourself.)

If slats are not available, follow the steps below:

  • Measure the exact size needed for your window.
  • Measure from the track opening down to the point where you want the slat to finish.
  • The slat should stop around 13mm above any obstruction, such as a window sill or radiator.

Counting and Ordering Slats

  • Count either the number of existing slats or the carriers on your headrail.
  • Enter the full quantity required when placing your order.

Before you begin, check that the following items are included with your vertical blind:

Additional equipment required during installation:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with suitable bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fix

  • Position the brackets around 5cm from each end of the headrail location. If more than two brackets are provided, place the extras evenly across the blind for stability.
  • Ensure the fixings are suitable for the type of wall or surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into position, and then secure it by tightening the short screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

  • Measure and mark carefully to allow for obstacles such as window handles that extend into the recess.
  • Fit the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail, giving clearance for the handle opener. If more than two brackets are included, space them evenly across the blind.
  • Check that the fixings are appropriate for the wall or ceiling.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket at the marked spot. Rotate it into position until you hear a click. To release the headrail, press the bracket at that point.
