Tools You Will Need for Measuring Vertical Blinds

  • Steel tape measure
  • Pencil for marking and writing down sizes
  • A sheet or notepad for recording measurements
  • A step ladder for tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measuring

  • Write down height and width clearly and separately. Mixing them up can result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, take each one separately. Never assume they are the same size, as small differences can affect the fit.

Outside Recess

  • Measure the full area that you would like the blind to cover. For less light leakage, it is best for the blind to extend at least 70mm above the window recess and 50mm on both sides.
  • The amount it hangs below is up to you, but always check for obstructions such as radiators.
  • Always use a steel tape measure, as cloth ones can bend or stretch and give incorrect figures.

Inside Recess

  • If you want the blind to sit inside the recess, measure the full height and width of the opening. Adjustments will be made for you to ensure a neat fit.
  • Take measurements in three places across both width and drop, then use the smallest figures.
  • Do not adjust the numbers yourself, as this will be done when the blind is made.
  • Always use a steel tape for the most accurate results.

What Comes with Your Vertical Blind

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Screws
  • A pencil
  • Drill with suitable drill bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Steel tape measure

Face Fix

  • Place the brackets around 5cm from each end of the headrail position. If you are given more than two brackets, space them evenly along the rail.
  • Make sure the wall or surface is suitable for the fixings.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it forward into place, then secure it by tightening the short screw at the front.

Top Fix

  • Mark the areas carefully, making sure to allow room for any window handles that stick out into the recess.
  • Fit the brackets around 10cm from the ends of the headrail. This ensures clearance for handles. If more brackets are included, spread them evenly along the rail.
  • Always check that your fixings are right for the surface.
  • Hook the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place until it clicks, and press the release point on the bracket if you want to remove it.
