Tools Required to Measure Vertical Blinds

  • Steel tape measure
  • Pencil for marking and noting down your sizes
  • Worksheet to record the figures
  • Ladder (if needed for tall windows)

Tips for Getting the Right Measurement

  • Keep height and width separate when writing them down. Mixing them up may result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same size. Check each one individually, as small differences can affect the fit.

Outside Recess

  • Measure the area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to extend at least 70mm above the recess and 50mm on each side.
  • The bottom overlap is your choice, but keep in mind obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth versions may stretch or bend and give inaccurate sizes.

Inside Recess

  • Choose this option if you want the blind to fit within the recess. Measure the full width and height of the opening, and adjustments will be made for the blind to fit properly.
  • Measure in three places for both width and drop, then use the smallest figures.
  • Do not make deductions yourself; these will be applied to ensure a proper fit.
  • Again, use a metal tape measure for the most accurate results.

Items Included with Your Vertical Blind

  • Face fix brackets (x2)
  • Hangers (x1)
  • Allen key (x1)
  • Stabilising chains (x2)
  • Safety hook (x1)
  • Wood screws (x4)
  • Weight (x1)
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

  • Place the brackets about 5cm from each end of the headrail. If you receive more than two brackets, position the extras evenly across the length. Always check that your fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it forward into position, and then secure it by tightening the small screw at the front.

Top Fix

  • Measure and mark carefully, allowing space for handles or anything else that sticks into the recess. Position the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail to avoid window handles. If extra brackets are supplied, fix them evenly across the blind. Always make sure your fixings are right for the surface.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket at the set points. Rotate it until it clicks securely into place. To remove it, press the release on the bracket.
