Tools Required for Measuring Vertical Blinds:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil to note down measurements
  • A worksheet to record results
  • A ladder if the window is tall

Helpful Tips for Accurate Measuring:

  • Never confuse height and width when writing down sizes. Mixing them can result in blinds that do not fit properly.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, measure each separately. Do not assume they are the same, as even small differences can affect how the blinds sit.

Outside Recess Measuring:

  • Measure the area you would like the blind to cover. To reduce light entering, it is best for the blind to overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The overlap at the bottom is your choice, but check for things like radiators that may be in the way.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes may bend or stretch and give the wrong result.

Inside Recess Measuring:

  • If you want the blind to sit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the recess. Adjustments will then be made so the blind fits properly.
  • Take three measurements for both the width and the drop, and use the smallest size.
  • Do not make deductions yourself, as this will be done to ensure the correct fit.
  • Always use a metal tape for reliable accuracy.

Items Supplied with Your Vertical Blind:

  • 2 x Top fix brackets
  • 2 x Face fix brackets
  • 1 x Set of hangers
  • 1 x Allen key
  • 2 x Stabilising chains
  • 1 x Safety hook
  • 4 x Wood screws
  • 1 x Weight

Extra Tools You Will Need:

  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with the right drill bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Fitting:

  • Fix the brackets about 5cm from both ends of where the headrail will sit. If you have more than two brackets, place the extras evenly along the rail. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the surface or wall you are attaching them to.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it forward into place, and tighten the front screw to secure it firmly.

Top Fix Fitting:

  • Mark the positions carefully, allowing space for any obstacles such as window handles. Place the brackets around 10cm from each end so that handles can still open. Spread out any extra brackets evenly along the length. Make sure the fixings are suitable for the chosen surface.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the brackets, then rotate it until it clicks into position. To release it, press the bracket catch.
