Tools You Will Need to Measure Vertical Blinds

  • Steel tape measure
  • Pencil for marking and noting down measurements
  • Worksheet to record your sizes
  • Ladder (if measuring tall windows)

Helpful Tips for Accurate Measurement

  • Always keep width and height separate when writing them down, as swapping them may result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, do not assume they are all the same size. Measure each one individually, as even small differences can affect how well the blinds fit.

Outside Recess

  • Measure the exact area you would like the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, the blind should overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The overlap at the bottom is up to you, but remember to consider obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth ones may stretch or bend, leading to inaccurate results.

Inside Recess

  • Take this measurement if you want your blind to sit inside the window opening. Measure the full width and height of the recess (the opening size), and the necessary adjustments will be made to ensure the blind fits perfectly.
  • Take measurements in three places for both the width and the drop, then use the smallest figure.
  • Do not make deductions yourself, as these will be done to guarantee an accurate fit.
  • Again, use a metal tape measure, as cloth ones may give the wrong measurements.

Face Fix

  • Position the brackets about 5cm from each end of the headrail. If more than two brackets are provided, space the extra brackets evenly across the blind. Always make sure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and then tighten the small screw at the front to secure it.

Top Fix

  • Measure and mark the space to allow clearance for handles or anything else that projects into the recess. Place brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail to clear window handles. If more than two brackets are included, space the extras evenly across the blind. Always make sure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket at the marked points. Rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove, press the release on the bracket.
