Tools Required to Measure Vertical Blinds

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil to mark and record measurements
  • Worksheet or paper to write down findings
  • Ladder if measuring tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measuring

  • Do not confuse width and height when noting down measurements. Swapping these can result in a blind that does not fit properly.
  • If you are measuring multiple windows, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each one individually, as even small differences can affect the fit.

Outside Recess Measurements

  • Measure the full area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light leakage, allow the blind to overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The bottom overlap is up to you, but consider any obstacles like radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure because fabric tapes may stretch or bend, giving inaccurate measurements.

Inside Recess Measurements

  • Measure the full width and height of the window recess if you want the blind to fit inside it. The necessary adjustments will be made to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Measure in three places for both width and drop, then use the smallest measurement.
  • Do not make your own deductions, as these will be applied to guarantee the blind fits correctly.
  • Use a metal tape measure to avoid inaccurate readings from stretching.

Before starting, check that all the components supplied with your vertical blind are available.

Extra Equipment Needed

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with appropriate bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Method

  • Position the brackets around 5cm from the ends where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the others evenly along the length of the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into position, and tighten the small screw at the front to secure it.

Top Fix Method

  • Measure carefully and mark the locations, allowing for any obstacles such as window handles.
  • Place the brackets approximately 10cm from each end of the headrail. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the additional ones evenly. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or ceiling surface.
  • Tilt the headrail into the bracket and rotate it until it clicks into position. To release, press the bracket at the release point.
