Tools you will need for measuring vertical blinds:

  • A metal measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and writing sizes
  • A sheet or notebook to note measurements
  • A ladder if windows are tall

Tips for taking accurate measurements:

  • Always write height and width separately to avoid mixing them up. If you reverse them, the blind will not fit properly.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, measure each one individually. Do not assume they are the same because even small differences can affect the fit.

Outside Recess

Measure the exact size of the area you want the blind to cover. To stop light from leaking in, the blind should overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm at each side.

The overlap at the bottom depends on your preference, but remember to consider obstacles such as radiators.

Always use a metal tape measure. Cloth tapes can stretch or bend, which may lead to wrong measurements.

Inside Recess

If you want the blind to sit inside the recess, measure the full width and height of the recess (the whole opening). We will adjust the size to make sure the blind fits perfectly.

Measure both the width and drop in three different places, and then use the smallest sizes.

Do not make any adjustments yourself—we will take care of that to give you the best fit.

Again, always use a metal tape measure for accurate results.

Please check that your vertical blind comes with the following:

Items included with your blind:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 hanger
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with suitable bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fix

Mark and position the brackets about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If your blind comes with more than two brackets, fit the rest evenly across the length of the headrail. Make sure the fixings are suitable for the type of wall or surface you are attaching them to.

For face fixing, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it into place. Secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

Measure and mark the points carefully, leaving enough space for handles or anything that sticks out inside the recess. Place the brackets about 10cm from the ends of where the headrail will go, as this leaves room for window handles. If more than two brackets are included, fit the extra ones evenly along the rail. Make sure your fixings are correct for the wall or ceiling surface.

Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket at the marked point, then rotate it until it clicks securely into place. To remove the headrail, press the bracket release at the marked point.
