Tools You Will Need for Measuring Vertical Blinds

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and noting down sizes
  • A worksheet for recording measurements
  • A step ladder if you are measuring tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measuring

Always write down height and width separately, as mixing them up could result in blinds that do not fit. If you are measuring more than one window, measure each one individually instead of assuming they are the same size. Even small differences can affect how well the blinds fit.

Outside Recess

Measure the exact size of the area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, it is best to let the blind overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm at each side. At the bottom, the overlap is your choice, but remember to consider obstacles like radiators. Always use a metal measuring tape, as cloth tapes can bend or stretch and give incorrect readings.

Inside Recess

If you want the blind to sit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. We will make the necessary adjustments so that the blind fits perfectly. Take three measurements each for both the width and the drop, and use the smallest measurement. Do not make any adjustments yourself, as we will handle this for you. Again, a metal tape is recommended for accuracy.

Before fitting, make sure you have all the items supplied with your vertical blind.

Additional Equipment Needed

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Extra screws if required
  • A drill with the right drill bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A steel measuring tape

Face Fix

Position the brackets around 5cm from each end of where the headrail will go. If more than two brackets are provided, space them evenly across the blind. Make sure the fixings are secure and suitable for the type of wall or surface. To attach, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and then secure it by tightening the screw at the front.

Top Fix

When fitting inside a recess, measure and mark carefully to allow for window handles or anything that sticks out. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail to make sure they clear the handles. If extra brackets are included, fit them at equal distances across the blind. Ensure the wall fixings are strong enough for support. To fit the headrail, tilt and hook it into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the release point on the bracket.
