Tools You Will Need:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking points and noting down sizes
  • A sheet or worksheet to record each measurement
  • A ladder, if measuring taller windows

Helpful Measuring Tips:

  • Always write down height and width correctly, as mixing them up will result in the wrong size blind.
  • Do not assume every window is the same size. Measure each one individually as even a small difference can affect the fitting.
  • Use a metal tape measure rather than a cloth one, as cloth measures can bend or stretch, giving the wrong results.

Measuring for Different Fittings

Outside Recess

If you want the blind to cover the wall outside the window recess, measure the exact area you want it to cover. To prevent too much light from leaking through, allow the blind to overlap the recess by about 70mm at the top and at least 50mm on both sides. The amount of overlap at the bottom depends on your choice, but be mindful of anything in the way, such as radiators.

Inside Recess

For blinds that fit neatly inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. Measure in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest numbers. Do not make any deductions yourself, as we will adjust them to ensure the blind fits perfectly. Again, use a metal tape measure for accuracy.

Your vertical blind will come with the following items:

  • Top fix brackets (x2)
  • Face fix brackets (x2)
  • Hangers (x1)
  • Allen key (x1)
  • Stabilising chain (x2)
  • Safety hook (x1)
  • Wood screws (x4)
  • Weight (x1)
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct drill bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

Place the brackets about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If your blind comes with more than two brackets, fix the extras evenly across the full width. Always check that the screws and fittings are suitable for the wall or surface you are working with. To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to secure.

Top Fix

Measure and mark carefully to allow for anything that sticks out, such as window handles. Fix the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail, which ensures there is space for the handles. If there are extra brackets, fix them evenly across the length of the blind. Make sure the fittings are suitable for the surface. To attach, tilt the headrail into the bracket until it clicks into place. To remove, press the bracket release point.
