Tools You Will Need for Measuring Vertical Blinds

  • A steel tape measure
  • A pencil for marking and writing sizes
  • A sheet for recording your measurements
  • A ladder if you are working with tall windows

Helpful Measuring Tips

  • Do not mix up width and height when writing them down, as this mistake can result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, measure each one separately. Even small differences can affect the fit of the blinds.

Outside Recess

Measure the full size of the area that you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, it is best for the blind to extend at least 70mm above the recess and 50mm on each side.

The amount of overlap at the bottom depends on your preference, but keep in mind any obstacles such as radiators.

Always use a metal measuring tape, as fabric ones may bend or stretch and cause errors.

Inside Recess

If you would like the blind to fit inside the window recess, measure the complete width and height of the opening. We will then make the required adjustments to ensure the blind fits properly.

Take three measurements across the width and three for the drop, and use the smallest figures.

Do not make reductions yourself, as we will do that to guarantee a correct fit.

Always use a metal tape measure for accurate results.

Before you begin, check that you have all the parts supplied with your vertical blind.

Extra Equipment You Will Need:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with correct bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A steel tape measure

Face Fix

Place the brackets about 5cm from the ends of where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are included, fit the extras evenly along the length of the rail. Check that the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface where you are attaching them.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then turn it into place. Secure it by tightening the small screw on the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

First, mark where the brackets will go, making sure to allow room for handles or any fittings that stick out into the recess. The brackets should be positioned around 10cm from each end of the headrail, which will clear window handles. If extra brackets are included, space them evenly along the rail. Always ensure your fixings are right for the surface.

Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket until it clicks into position. To release it, press the bracket at the marked point.
