Tools You Will Need to Measure Your Blinds

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil to mark and record measurements
  • Worksheet or notebook to note your findings
  • Ladder for tall windows, if necessary

Tips for Accurate Measuring:

  • Keep height and width measurements separate. Mixing them up may cause the blind not to fit.
  • If measuring multiple windows, measure each one individually. Slight differences between windows can affect how the blinds fit.

Outside Recess Measurement

  • Measure the area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • Bottom overlap is optional but consider obstacles such as radiators.
  • Use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes may stretch or bend, giving inaccurate measurements.

Inside Recess Measurement

  • Measure the full width and height of the window recess if the blind is to fit inside. The manufacturer will make the necessary deductions to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Take measurements in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurement.
  • Do not make any deductions yourself; this will be done to guarantee the blind fits perfectly.
  • Use a metal tape measure to avoid errors caused by stretching.

Make sure you have all the parts supplied with your blind before starting.

Extra Equipment You Will Need:

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chains x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Blind weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

  • Place the brackets approximately 5cm from each end of the headrail. If additional brackets are provided, space them evenly across the length of the blind. Make sure the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into position. Secure the headrail by tightening the short screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix Installation

  • Measure and mark where the brackets will go, allowing for obstacles like window handles. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail to avoid handles. Additional brackets should be spaced evenly along the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or ceiling.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the designated point.
