Tools You Need for Measuring Vertical Blinds

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and noting down sizes
  • A worksheet for recording measurements
  • A ladder if required for tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measuring

  • Take care not to confuse height and width when writing measurements, as this could lead to blinds that do not fit.
  • When measuring more than one window, do not assume they are identical. Take measurements for each one individually, as even small differences can affect the final fit.

Outside Recess

Measure the full area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm at each side.

The amount of overlap at the bottom is your choice, but make sure to take into account features such as radiators.

Always use a metal measuring tape, as cloth ones may bend or stretch and give unreliable readings.

Inside Recess

If you want the blind to sit neatly within the recess, measure the total width and height of the recess itself. We will make the necessary allowances to ensure the blind fits as it should.

Take three measurements across both width and drop, then use the smallest figures.

Do not make deductions yourself, as we will handle this for the best result.

Again, always use a metal measuring tape for accuracy.

Before fitting, please check that you have received all parts supplied with your vertical blind.

Additional Tools and Equipment You Will Need:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 hanger
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with suitable bits
  • A cross-head screwdriver
  • A metal measuring tape

Face Fix

Place the brackets about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will be fitted. If more than two brackets are provided, spread the extra ones evenly across the length of the blind. Make sure the fixings used are suitable for the wall or surface.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it into position. Tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to secure it.

Top Fix

Mark the positions carefully, allowing enough space for any window handles or other obstructions inside the recess. Fit the brackets roughly 10cm from each end of where the headrail will sit, which allows clearance for handles. If more than two brackets are supplied, fix the rest evenly across the width. Ensure your fixings are suitable for the surface you are attaching to.

Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it until it clicks securely into place. To remove it, press the release point on the bracket.
