Tools You Will Need to Measure Vertical Blinds:

  • Steel tape measure
  • Pencil to mark and note measurements
  • Worksheet to record your findings
  • Ladder if your windows are tall

Tips for Accurate Measurements:

  • Do not swap height and width measurements, as this can result in a blind that does not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, measure each one separately. Even small differences can significantly affect the fit.

Outside Recess Measurement

Measure the exact area where you want the blind to cover. To reduce light leakage, allow the blind to overlap the top of the recess by at least 70mm and 50mm on each side. The bottom overlap is optional, but consider obstacles such as radiators. Use a metal tape measure for accuracy, as cloth tapes can stretch and give incorrect results.

Inside Recess Measurement

For an inside recess fit, measure the full width and height of the window recess (the opening). We will make the necessary adjustments to ensure the blind fits perfectly. Measure width and height in three places and use the smallest measurement. Do not make any deductions yourself; we will handle this to guarantee a precise fit. Always use a metal tape measure.

Before starting, ensure you have all components supplied with your blind. You will also need:

Additional Equipment:

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chain x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with suitable bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fixing Instructions

Position the brackets approximately 5cm from each end where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the extra brackets evenly along the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface. Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into place. Secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fixing Instructions

Measure and mark the bracket positions, allowing clearance for window handles or other obstacles. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end. If there are extra brackets, space them evenly along the blind. Ensure the fixings are appropriate for your wall or surface. Tilt the headrail and hook it into the bracket, then rotate it until it clicks. To release the headrail, press the bracket at the designated point.
