Tools you will need:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and noting sizes
  • A sheet to record measurements
  • A step ladder for taller windows

Tips for accurate measuring:

  • Do not confuse width with height when writing them down, as mixing these up may cause incorrect fitting.
  • If you are fitting blinds on several windows, measure each one separately instead of assuming they are all the same size. Small differences can affect how the blinds fit.

Outside Recess Measurement:

  • Measure the exact size of the space where you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to extend at least 70mm above the recess and 50mm on each side.
  • The overlap at the bottom is your choice, but remember to check for items such as radiators that may be in the way.
  • Always use a metal tape measure because cloth ones can stretch or bend, giving the wrong result.

Inside Recess Measurement:

  • This is required if you want the blind to sit inside the window recess. Measure the full width and height of the recess itself.
  • Take measurements in three different spots for both width and drop, and record the smallest size.
  • Do not make any deductions yourself, as these will be done for you to ensure the blind fits perfectly.
  • Again, use a metal tape measure for reliable results.

When fitting your vertical blind, make sure you have the parts provided:

Supplied fittings include:

  • Two top-fix brackets
  • Two face-fix brackets
  • One set of hangers
  • One Allen key
  • Two stabilising chains
  • One safety hook
  • Four wood screws
  • One weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct drill bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fixing:

  • Place the brackets around 5cm from each end of the headrail position. If more than two brackets are included, space the extras evenly along the blind.
  • Check that your fixings are suitable for the wall or surface you are attaching to.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it forward into place, and secure it by tightening the small screw at the front.

Top Fixing:

  • Before fitting, measure and mark the positions carefully to avoid obstructions such as handles sticking into the recess.
  • Brackets should be set about 10cm from the ends of the headrail so the blind clears the window handle. If you have more than two brackets, space them evenly along the headrail.
  • Ensure your fixings suit the surface.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it into position until it clicks. To release the headrail, press the clip on the bracket.
