Tools you will need for measuring:

  • Steel tape measure
  • Pencil for marking and writing sizes
  • A worksheet to note down measurements
  • A ladder if your windows are tall

Tips for accurate measurements:

  • Always note height and width correctly. Mixing them up may cause blinds not to fit.
  • When measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each one individually as even small differences can affect the fit.

Outside Recess

Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light coming in from the edges, it is best to let the blind overlap the window by about 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side. At the bottom, the overlap is your choice, but keep in mind any obstacles like radiators. Always use a metal tape measure as cloth tapes can bend or stretch, giving the wrong result.

Inside Recess

If you want the blind to sit inside the window recess, measure the full height and width of the recess. Take three measurements across the width and the drop, and use the smallest ones. Do not make any deductions yourself, as we will adjust the size to make sure the blind fits correctly. Again, use a metal tape measure for accuracy.

When you receive your blinds, please make sure you have the following items:

  • Top fix brackets (x2)
  • Face fix brackets (x2)
  • Hangers (x1 set)
  • Allen key (x1)
  • Stabilising chains (x2)
  • Safety hook (x1)
  • Wood screws (x4)
  • Weights (x1 set)
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

Mark where the brackets will go, about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If more brackets are supplied, place them evenly across the length of the blind. Make sure the fixings are right for the wall or surface. To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, then tighten the small screw at the front to secure it.

Top Fix

First, check the distance needed to clear obstacles like window handles. Mark where the brackets should be, about 10cm from each end of the headrail position. If more brackets are supplied, spread them evenly across the length. Again, ensure fixings are suitable for the surface. To fit, tilt the headrail and hook it into the bracket. Rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove, push the release on the bracket.
