To measure correctly, you will need:

  • A metal measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and noting down sizes
  • A worksheet for recording your measurements
  • A ladder, if windows are tall

Tips for Accurate Measuring:

  • Do not mix up width and height measurements, as this could result in blinds that do not fit.
  • Measure every window individually. Even if they look the same, small differences can affect the fitting.
  • Always use a steel tape measure since fabric ones can bend or stretch, giving the wrong reading.

Measuring Outside the Recess:

  • Measure the area you want the blind to cover. For the best light control, we suggest the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • At the bottom, the overlap is your choice, but remember to allow for objects such as radiators.

Measuring Inside the Recess:

  • Take the full height and width of the window recess (the inner space).
  • Measure in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurement.
  • Do not make deductions yourself. We will do that for you to make sure the blind fits perfectly.
  • Always use a steel tape measure for accuracy.

Before you begin, check that you have all the following items that come with your blind:

  • 2 top-fix brackets
  • 2 face-fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with the correct drill bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fixing:

  • Position the brackets about 5cm from each end where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, fit the extras evenly across the length of the blind.
  • Ensure your fixings are right for the wall or surface.
  • To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate into position, then tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to hold it securely.

Top Fixing:

  • Mark the space carefully, allowing for obstacles such as handles that may stick out into the recess.
  • Place brackets about 10cm from the ends of the headrail position, making sure they clear window handles. Extra brackets should be fitted evenly across the blind’s length.
  • Fix with suitable screws for the surface.
  • To install, tilt the headrail and hook it into the bracket. Rotate until it clicks into place.
  • To remove, push the bracket and release the headrail.
