Tools Required for Measuring Vertical Blinds

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for marking and recording measurements
  • Worksheet to note your results
  • Ladder for tall or high windows if needed

Tips for Accurate Measurement

Be careful not to mix up height and width when recording measurements, as this could result in a blind that does not fit. If you are measuring multiple windows, do not assume they are all the same size. Measure each window individually, as even small differences can affect the blind’s fit.

Outside Recess Measurement

Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light leakage, allow the blind to extend at least 70mm above the window recess and 50mm on each side. The bottom overlap is optional, but consider any obstacles such as radiators. Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes may stretch and give incorrect measurements.

Inside Recess Measurement

For a blind that fits inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. We will make the necessary deductions to ensure the blind fits perfectly.

Measure three points for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurement. Do not make any deductions yourself, as this is done to guarantee a precise fit. Always use a metal tape measure to avoid inaccuracies from stretching.

Before starting, check that all supplied items are included with your blind.

Extra Equipment You Will Need

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with appropriate bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

For face fixing, position the brackets approximately 5cm from each end of the headrail. If extra brackets are supplied, space them evenly along the length of the blind. Ensure that the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface you are using.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into position. Secure it by tightening the short screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

For top fixing, measure and mark the bracket positions to allow for window handles or other obstructions. Position the brackets roughly 10cm from each end to avoid interference with handles. Space any additional brackets evenly along the blind’s length. Ensure that the fixings are suitable for the wall or ceiling surface.

Tilt the headrail into the bracket and rotate it until it clicks securely into place. To remove the headrail, press the release point on the bracket.
