Tools You Will Need

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for marking measurements
  • Worksheet to record your sizes
  • Ladder for tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measurements

  • Keep height and width separate. Swapping them can result in a blind that does not fit.
  • Measure each window individually. Small differences can affect how well the blinds fit.

Outside Recess

Measure the area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, the blind should overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.

The bottom overlap can be chosen according to preference, but consider obstacles such as radiators.

Always use a metal tape measure as cloth tapes can stretch or bend, giving inaccurate results.

Inside Recess

If you want the blind to fit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. The necessary deductions will be made to ensure a perfect fit.

Measure three times for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurement.

Do not make deductions yourself; these will be handled to ensure your blind fits accurately.

Always use a metal tape measure for precise measurements.

Before starting, ensure you have all parts that come with your blind.

Extra Equipment You Might Need

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

Place the brackets approximately 5cm from each end of the headrail. If more brackets are included, space them evenly along the length of the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into position, and secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

Mark where the brackets will go, allowing space for window handles or other obstacles. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail to avoid any interference. If extra brackets are supplied, space them evenly across the length of the blind. Make sure the fixings are appropriate for your wall or surface.

Tilt the headrail into the bracket, rotate it until it clicks into place, and to release, push the bracket at the marked point.
