Tools you will need for measuring vertical blinds:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and noting your sizes
  • A worksheet for recording your details
  • A ladder if you are measuring tall windows

Tips for taking accurate measurements:

  • Keep width and height measurements separate, as mixing them up will result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same. Measure each one individually, as even small differences can affect how the blinds sit.

Outside recess fitting

Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. To help reduce light gaps, it is best for the blind to overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side. The overlap at the bottom depends on your preference, but remember to consider things such as radiators. Always use a metal tape measure as fabric ones may stretch or bend and give incorrect measurements.

Inside recess fitting

This measurement is used if you would like your blind to sit inside the window recess. Measure the full width and drop of the recess, and we will make the required adjustments for a neat fit. Measure in three places for both the width and height, and take the smallest sizes. Please do not make any deductions yourself, as we will do this for the best fit. Again, use a metal tape measure for accuracy.

Fitting

When fitting your vertical blind, please check you have the following parts included:

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chains x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Weights x1
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct drill bits
  • Cross head screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face fix

Position the brackets roughly 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the extra brackets evenly along the length of the blind. Make sure that your fixings are suitable for the wall or surface. To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it into place. Tighten the short screw at the front of the bracket to secure the headrail.

Top fix

Measure and mark the area carefully, making sure there is enough clearance for any window handles that stick out. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail position to allow for these fittings. If you have more than two brackets, install them evenly across the length of the blind. Confirm that your fixings are suitable for the surface. Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the release point.
