Tools You Will Need for Vertical Blinds

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for marking and recording measurements
  • Worksheet to note down your results
  • Ladder for high or tall windows if required

Tips for Accurate Measurement

Do not confuse height and width when writing down measurements, as mixing them up can lead to a blind that does not fit correctly. If measuring multiple windows, do not assume they are identical. Measure each window individually, as small differences can affect how the blind fits.

Measuring for Outside Recess

Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light coming through the edges, the blind should extend at least 70mm above the window recess and 50mm on each side. The bottom overlap is optional, but consider any obstacles such as radiators. Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes may stretch and give inaccurate results.

Measuring for Inside Recess

If the blind is to fit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. We will make the required deductions to ensure a precise fit.

Measure in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurement. Do not make any deductions yourself, as these are applied to ensure the blind fits perfectly. Use a metal tape measure to avoid inaccuracies caused by stretching.

Before starting, make sure you have all the items that come with your blind:

Additional Equipment Required

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with the correct bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

For face fixing, position the brackets approximately 5cm from each end of the headrail. If extra brackets are supplied, space them evenly along the blind’s length. Ensure fixings are suitable for the wall or surface you are mounting them on.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into place. Secure it by tightening the short screw on the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

For top fixing, measure and mark the position carefully to allow for any window handles or other obstacles. Place the brackets roughly 10cm from the ends to avoid interference with handles. Space any additional brackets evenly along the headrail. Make sure the fixings are appropriate for the wall or ceiling surface.

Tilt the headrail into the bracket and rotate until it clicks securely. To remove the headrail, press the release point on the bracket.
